eTrans-Formation

Comptramatics' premier consulting services offering is its Legacy eTrans-FormationTM Service. Legacy eTrans-Formation is the process of transforming computer software systems written in a legacy language (such as Cobol) to a component based, object oriented form using Java and its related technologies. The source is often an IBM mainframe based system. The target is a state of the art, web enabled, eCommerce ready, three tier distributed architecture system.

Due to the complex nature of a source code transformation effort, Legacy eTrans-Formation is offered by Comptramatics as a service. In this format Comptramatics, its partners, and the client can come together to successfully complete a Legacy eTrans-Formation Project.

The key component of the Legacy eTrans-Formation Service is Trans-ProteusTM, Comptramatics' proprietary transformation software system. Trans-Proteus is not just a line-by-line conversion tool, it is a source code object transformation tool. Trans-Proteus analyzes every single line of the source code before it generates a single line of target code. This allows Trans-Proteus to maximize component reusability and generate code that is fully cast in the Java idiom.

The use of Trans-Proteus enables Comptramatics to highly automate a Legacy eTrans-Formation Project. It is this level of automation that allows Legacy eTrans-Formation Projects to be completed quickly and efficiently and to generate target Java code that is well-formatted, consistent, and standardized.

Some of the benefits of an automated Legacy eTrans-Formation Project are:

  • Reduced transformation project duration
  • Reduced transformation project cost
  • Fully Internet enabled applications
  • Reduced future hardware cost
  • Reduced software development and maintenance costs
  • Make your competitors keep pace with you

Some of the features provided by the automated Legacy eTrans-Formation Project are:

  • Generation of internet ready, eCommerce enabled target code
  • Implementation of standards through automatically generated target code
  • Implementation of a state of the art, internet enabled, three tier distributed architecture
  • Generation of Java Bean component objects
  • Generation of separate data classes to encapsulate data and the business rules that process the data
  • Transformation of source code data structures into Java container objects
  • Generation of an auditing interface for auditing, performance monitoring, and automated testing use
  • Transformation of source code screen definitions for thin client or internet appliance use
  • Abstraction of input-output operations to implement a separate database tier
  • Formatting of data into eXtensible Markup Language (XML) for data transparency
  • Optional generation of Unified Modeling Language (UML) specifications
